Why Employ Au pairs or Nannies?

Employing au pairs nannies, au pair plus or a baby sitters can take the stress out of modern family life, and introducing someone from another country can often enrich the lives of everyone. Some of our pages will give you an overview of what you will need to know if you are considering employing au pairs or nannies.

Au pairs are more flexible than traditional childcare, and can be more rewarding to both families and children. Families may ask aupairs to do most household duties, except for example, clean toilets, scrub floors, clean out ovens. The au pair English lessons are usually in school hours, and around 2- 8 hours weekly. Generally the cost is paid by the au pair.

Au pairs nannies also pay for travel to the Uk or other countries and the families pay a coach ticket from the arrival point or if possible, collect the au pairs nannies themselves. If you have boys, or older children, or pets, maybe if you want a confident driver, these are the typical situations for a male au pair placement. They are generally less homesick , than the girls. Au Pair Orientation & Training course

E-mail Print

We believe that only a well-prepared Au Pair can be an efficient carer for your child(ren) and your home. In our experience only “trained” au-pairs can give you a TOP performance and be able to make the most out of her/his time with your family and her/his year abroad.

As you know most of the Au Pairs are coming into the UK as cultural exchange candidates to get to know the British culture and improve their English. An Au Pair is not a nanny and more often than not, has no childcare qualification. Most of them have gained their childcare experience from babysitting or similar. Rest assured, however, that by taking on an Au Pair who has been through an Au Pair Orientation & Training course will be well equipped to face the challenges and tasks ahead.

We all know that the settling in period can be difficult for the parents, children and the au-pair. The purpose of the Au Pair Orientation & Training course is to help and take the burden off your shoulders and make the first weeks smoother and easier. This course will give an excellent opportunity to your NEW or current Au Pair to gain more knowledge and skills on child development and safety before or after the arrival to your family. Au Pair Orientation & Training course will also help her/him, to have a deeper understanding – in general – about the expectations of host parents/children and adjust to the British culture and lifestyle.

The Orientation also offers your Au Pair an excellent opportunity to get to know other Au Pairs around your area from the beginning of their stay, make friends which in our experience will help them get over homesickness and the potential disappointment of them returning home early and letting you and your children down.

Next Au Pair Orientation & Training course will take place on 28/29th of August, 2010 in London. Accommodation can be provided to the participants in the International Student House, which is a very central, convenient and safe place to stay. If you are living in London your Au Pair can also stay in your house and come in to the city for the course if you/the aupair prefers this.

Usually, families pay for the course or it can be a shared fee. Some families pay upfront but deduct £5-10 per week for a number of weeks to regain the cost.

The Orientation includes the followings:

Day-1, Saturday - Intro and Orientation:

  • Introduction
  • Life in the UK
  • Cultural differences and expectations of the Host family
  • Problem solving / Communication
  • Information on Language Schools & courses
  • Guided City Tour
  • Questions & Answers Pub Evening

Day-2, Sunday – Training day:

  • Paediatric First Aid – 6 hr course (Ofsted approved)
  • Child Health and Safety
  • Healthy Eating Everyday
  • Child Development – Ages & Stages
  • Age appropriate indoor & outdoor activities with Children

Snacks and drinks are provided; participants should bring some pocket money for lunch and the City Tour.

At the end of the course the participants will receive:

  • OFSTED approved First-aid Certificate (valid for 3 years)
  • AuPair Diploma
  • A welcome pack including other aupairs numbers/emails plus access to an aupair network page
  • AuPair Handbook plus other UK guide books and tips
  • FREE UK SIM Card and explanation of mobiles + internet use
  • Invitation for monthly pub evenings, excursion and trips with regular discounted prices for au pairs.
  • Discounts on entry tickets to UK attractions and theme parks

The cost of the course is:

  • with accommodation (inc. breakfast): £250 + VAT
  • without accommodation: £200 + VAT

User Rating: / 30
Au pair conditions in Britain, France, Germany, Spain and the rest of the European Union are fairly similar. Many European countries have signed the European Agreement on au pair placement.

This agreement states that:

  • The au pair will receive board and lodging from the host family and where possible will receive a separate room.
  • The au pair will be given adequate time to attend language courses.
  • The au pair will have at least one full free day per week. Not less than one such free day in every month being a Sunday, and will have full opportunity to take part in religious worship.
  • The au pair will receive a certain sum of money, as pocket money, the amount of which and the intervals at which it is paid shall be determined by the agreement signed by the family and the au pair.

In exchange:
